Hi, there I keep changing the display settings in control panel (windows 98) to 1152 by 864 pixels (high colour 16 bit) from 800 x 600, accepting it and ok ing it. Within 2-4 boots later, the system has reverted back to the 800 x 600 colours and I have to change the settings again. Can you suggest how I can stop

Everything is okay except that whenever I switch to a display of 800x600 16bit it does not display properly. Its as though its only in 16 colours! If XP is not acting to design (everyone shares display settings) then it is because you have a program (or driver) doing something. In this case maybe something that came with the video card. Have a look in settings and poke about. Why don't you just make your icons bigger instead. These aren't global.
